At Turnbull & Asser, we believe true style is timeless.
Our garments are not made for seasons, but for years of wear: crafted with patience, repaired with care, and designed to be appreciated across generations. We do not believe in mass production. Instead, we create shirts and ties in England using fabrics of exceptional provenance, thoughtful craftsmanship, and a commitment to enduring quality.
Made in England
At the heart of our making are our Gloucester workrooms, where our shirts and ties continue to be crafted with precision and care. By keeping production close to home, we are able to reduce unnecessary transportation while preserving the standards of craftsmanship that define us. Alongside traditional techniques, we continue to introduce thoughtful innovations across our workrooms. Automated cutting technology helps minimise fabric waste by carefully arranging each pattern piece, while fabric inspection systems reduce unnecessary recutting and conserve valuable cloth. One third of our shirts are made to order, ensuring materials are used with care rather than excess.
Thoughtful Materials
The quality of a garment begins with the quality of its cloth. We work closely with mills and suppliers with whom we have built trusted relationships over many decades, selecting partners who share our commitment to craftsmanship, transparency, and responsible production. Many of the fabrics used across our collections are sourced from mills holding globally recognised certifications including OEKO-TEX®, European Flax™, Responsible Wool Standard, and Global Organic Textile Standard. These standards support greater traceability and more thoughtful sourcing across the materials we use. Our buttons are crafted from sustainably sourced mother-of-pearl, while the remaining shell material is repurposed into fertiliser once production is complete.
Designed to Last
Longevity has always been central to a Turnbull & Asser garment. Our re-collar and re-cuff services allow well-loved shirts to be carefully restored and returned to the wardrobe with renewed life, often using surplus fabric from the workroom to achieve the closest possible match. Our ties may also be re-slipped to restore their structure, while shirts can be altered and repaired over time. By extending the life of our garments wherever possible, we continue a longstanding belief in considered craftsmanship and enduring quality.
A New Purpose
As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing waste, surplus fabric scraps from our Gloucester workrooms are regularly given to Cotton Lives On™, a recycling programme dedicated to repurposing cotton textiles through recycling initiatives. Old cotton is transformed into insulating roll mats for people experiencing homelessness across the UK, helping to reduce textile waste while giving materials a meaningful second life. Through partnerships such as this, we continue to support a more considered and responsible approach to craftsmanship. We also work with The Paper Foundation to give surplus shirt materials a new purpose beyond the workroom. Through traditional papermaking techniques, discarded cotton fibres are transformed into beautifully crafted paper goods, including our business cards. By reimagining excess materials through craftsmanship and innovation, these fabrics are able to continue their journey in a thoughtful and lasting way.
Considered Packaging
The journey of a garment continues long after it leaves our workrooms. We are continually refining the way our products are packaged and transported, with a focus on reducing unnecessary waste wherever possible. Our packaging is recyclable and made from 100% recycled cardboard, printed using vegetable-based inks. Transit packaging is also reused wherever possible to extend its lifespan before replacement.
